I can live everyday walking in God's truth ( Reception to year 6)

Recap of last week:

So over the last few weeks in Kids church we have looking at different factors that can help us live in freedom. Last week we looked at forgiveness. Do you remember how the servant was forgiven and didn't have to pay back his debt?

This week we are going to finish this series off by looking at the theme of walking in God's truth everyday.

Question: who is the most truthful person you know and why?

Why not start off looking at this theme by playing this simple true and false quiz, this is also to see how much you remember from the last few weeks.

Quiz (Answers will be at the bottom of the blog in case the whole family want to join in)

1. In last week's story Jesus said you should forgive someone 77 times? True or False

2. Once the servant was forgiven his debt, he let another servant off the money he was owed? True or False.

3. In the story in 1 Samuel (2:2-35) Abigail was the peacemaker? True or False

4. In the end Gideon had 300 men to fight the Midinates? True or False

Bible story:

Have any of you ever planted seeds before? Some of you may have planted a garden or watched your families do this. There is a lot of work involved in planting and caring for a garden. You need a shovel to break up the ground and a rake to remove the rocks and to keep the soil smooth.

You might be wondering why I mentioned this but seeds fit into today's story.

As a family why don't you read Luke 8:4-15 or you can watch it here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZEO_Ls2ERs

Here is also a version to read together from a kids bible:

One day Jesus told a story about a farmer who planted some seeds. As he scattered the seeds in his field, some of them feel onto the footpath and birds ate them. Other seeds fell onto rocky ground. The seeds sprouted but then wilted and died because they did not have deep roots. Some seeds fell in an areas where there was lots of weeds and the weeds chocked out the young plants. But some seeds fell on the good fertile soil and that seed grew and produced a wonderful crop.

Do you think Jesus was really trying to tell people how to plant a garden ? no. The story has a much deeper meaning. In Jesus story the seed represents the Word of God and the soil represents the people who hear the word. Many times people hear the Word of God, but they don’t understand it. They don’t take it in. That’s like the seed on the footpath. The devil comes and takes away the opportunity before the seed even gets a chance to grow. The seed that fell on rocky soil represents those who hear the word and receive it with great joy. But it doesn't last. The seed that fell among weeds represents people who hear God’s Word and believe what it says, but soon the message is crowded out by the worries of life. A person who hears God’s Word, tries to understand what it says and put it into practice in their daily lives is like good soil. In good soil seeds take root and grow stronger. This is the kind of soil Jesus wants us to be.

Rooted in the truth.

We can live in God's truth everyday. There are so many truths that we can live and believe.

Response: Parents why don't you put on some gentle music and then read these truths over your children. It is always good to be rooted in truth and these are such good reminders in times of uncertainty.

You are a child of God

You are loved

You are precious

You can live in freedom

You are fearfully and wonderfully made

You are chosen.

My prayer for you this week is to be rooted in these truths as a family

Answers for the quiz

1. True

2. False

3.True

4.True

Activity: As we have been talking about truth this week, why not create a card of encouragement and truth. You could give it a neighbour or someone else you know who might need an encouragement.

Family activity:

If you can why don't you plant something as a family, this could be as simple as planting some cress seeds and watching them grow. The important thing is to make sure you water and look after anything you plant. This is just like our relationship with God, we need to make sure we read the bible and pray.

Prayer: Dear God,

Thank you that we can be rooted in your truth.

Help us to understand your Word and share it with those around us.

Please be with us all this week.

Amen
